The façade of this three-manual organ was designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta (www.botta.ch). The console and exterior woodwork are of European maple. The specification was designed by Massimo Nosetti, titular organist of the Cathedral (www.massimonosetti.it) The organ has 49 ranks over four divisions. The Solo division, in addition to a Doppelflöte, a four-rank Cornetto, and a Clarinetto, also boasts a Tromba Reale, or Royal Trumpet, pictured at right, the only stop of this kind on an Italian organ. The console has three manuals, mechanical key action and electric stop action, and is set apart from the pipe work. The tracker runs are 18 feet long.
